The Common Ground Foundation has officially sunset as we transition into an exciting new chapter of The Dreamers and Believers program. Our program will continue as we know it under FREE TO DREAM – Common’s umbrella organization hosting all of his social justice and education initiatives.
Our commitment to the youth of Chicago, rooted in 25 years of service, remains steadfast and will continue to grow for years to come.

What happened to the Common Ground Foundation?
The Common Ground Foundation has officially closed after 25 years of impactful work in Chicago. Its legacy and mission continue through FREE TO DREAM, which expands and builds upon that work.
What is FREE TO DREAM?
FREE TO DREAM is Common’s nonprofit organization focused on social justice, youth development, and supporting opportunity-youth and systems-impacted individuals. It carries forward the spirit and impact of Common Ground Foundation while expanding opportunities and resources.
Is the Dreamers & Believers program still available?
Yes. Dreamers & Believers program will continue uninterrupted and remains a central part of this next chapter.
Will the program change?
The core of Dreamers & Believers is not changing. Families and mentees can expect the same:
- Mentorship
- Leadership development
- College and career exposure
- Ongoing support and community
Is the program still free?
Yes. Dreamers & Believers will continue to be a free program for all participating families.
Will mentors and staff still be involved?
Yes. The mentors, staff, and broader community supporting the program will remain in place and committed to your students.
Why is Dreamers & Believers moving under FREE TO DREAM?
The program is coming together with Common’s broader social justice and education initiatives, creating a more unified, aligned approach across his work and expanding opportunities for those served. Bringing Dreamers & Believers into FREE TO DREAM allows the program to grow stronger by:
- Building new partnerships
- Accessing additional resources
- Expanding opportunities for mentees
This transition helps ensure long-term sustainability and greater impact.
How will this benefit the mentees?
Your mentee will continue receiving the same trusted support, with added opportunities for growth through expanded programming, partnerships, and resources under FREE TO DREAM.
Will the location or structure of the program change?
Our offices are now located at the Art In Motion campus, which is also part of FREE TO DREAM.
At this time, there are no major changes to the structure families are familiar with. Any future updates will be clearly communicated.
